Die Afrikanerbond – Bondsraad 15-16 September 2022
Afrikaners – Brugbouers na die toekoms - ʼn Besinning oor die politieke herskikking waarbinne Afrikaners ook ʼn tuiste sal vind.
Na twee jaar van inperking is dit ʼn besondere voorreg om in die 104e bestaansjaar van ons organisasie weer ʼn nasionale Bondsraad te kan hou. Die Afrikaner-Broederbond is op 5 Junie 1918 in Johannesburg gestig. Uit die stigting is die Afrikaner op opvoedkundige, ekonomiese en later ook op politieke vlak bemagtig. Ons trotse organisasie het 'n blywende impak gehad op sommige van die groot ontwikkelings wat Suid-Afrika die afgelope 104 jaar ervaar het.
Gedurende 15 en 16 September 2022 hou ons ʼn Bondsraad met die tema Afrikaners – Brugbouers na die toekoms by die Voortrekkermonument in Pretoria. Die nasionale Algemene Vergadering van die Afrikanerbond word bygewoon deur verteenwoordigers van alle provinsies en die buiteland en sal in persoon en aanlyn plaasvind.
Sedert die Bondsraad van 2018 waarin ons Eeufeesjaar gehou is, en ons Bondsraad op 7 Junie 2018 deur President Ramaphosa in Paarl toegespreek is, het soveel dinge op verskillende terreine gebeur en is die Afrikanerbond se Bondsraad die ideale geleentheid om te besin, saam te praat en te beplan oor die toekoms.
Ons bevind ons vandag in ‘n onwerkbare en onvolhoubare politieke bestel. Die huidige politiek-staatkundige bedeling werk nie. Nie vir Afrikaners nie, maar ook nie vir miljoene ander Suid-Afrikaners wat gehoop en gedroom het oor die 1994 ideaal binne ‘n nuwe politieke bestel nie.
Daarom vind ons fokus in ons gesprekke tydens die Bondsraad oor die interne funksionering van ons organisasies maar dan veral ook in ons interaksie na buite. Ons sal tydens die Bondsraad besin oor die demografie van die Afrikaanse taalgemeenskap en die uitdagings wat ons hier in die gesig staar met ʼn aanbieding deur Connie Mulder van die Solidariteit Navorsingsinstituut.
Ons is veral bevoorreg om twee opossisieleiers te kan ontvang wat hulle perspektief oor koalisiepolitiek met ons gaan deel. Koalisievorming in die herskikking van die Suid-Afrikaanse politieke omgewing is tans in die kollig en is ons bevoorreg om Vrydag kundiges te ontvang wat die aktuele tema sal toelig.

In ons gesprekke sal ons ook fokus op deelname in burgerlike koalisies wat hande moet neem met politieke koalisievennote om die politieke herskikking moontlik te maak.
Die Afrikanerbond sal by die openingsgeleentheid ʼn aantal besondere toekennings tydens die Bondsraad en oorkondes van waardering oorhandig aan:
Phillip Nel (Postuum)
Vir die buitengewone bydrae tot die Afrikanerbond en die gemeenskap wat hy met onderskeiding gedien het.
Pieter van der Westhuizen
vir sy onbaatsugtige diens in die bevordering van Afrikaanse koormusiek en kultuur en die bevordering van kerkmusiek
Prof Christo Viljoen
vir die reuse bydrae op akademiese en kulturele gebied in die bevordering van Afrikaanse onderwys en opleiding in ingenieurswese en die besondere bydrae tot die uitsaaiwese.
Sampie Pienaar
vir die buitengewone bydrae tot die leiding van die strategiese bestuur van die Christiaan de Wet Fonds.
Willem Rossouw
vir die buitengewone bydrae tot die finansiële bestuur van die Afrikanerbond en die Christiaan de Wet Fonds.
Die Solidariteitsbeweging
vir die buitengewone bydrae tot hoër onderwys, onderrig en opleiding in Afrikaans met die oprigting en vestiging van Akademia en Sol-Tech.
Ons maak ook twee besondere besprekingsdokumente bekend tydens die Bondsraad wat aan ons lede gesirkuleer sal word en wat handel oor die aktualiteite van die tyd:

Kwelpunte in die Suid-Afrikaanse ekonomie deur Prof Jannie Rossouw
Binne die tema van Afrikaners – Brugbouers na die toekoms en ons visie “As Afrikaners bou ons saam aan die toekoms van Suid-Afrika” werk ons binne die eie en die nasionale belang. Ons appèl is tot die Afrikaners wat in die lengte en wydte van ons land woon en werk en elke dag ʼn verskil in hulle gemeenskappe maak. Dit is ons visie vir Afrikaners wat Suid-Afrika as hulle tuiste beskou en terdeë bewus is daarvan hulle lotgevalle ineengestrengel is met die van alle Suid-Afrikaners. Dit is ons visie vir Afrikaners wat hulleself nie kan of wil isoleer van Suid-Afrika nie. Dit is ons visie van Afrikaners wat elke dag brûe bou na ander Suid-Afrikaners om ons gemeenskaplike belange aan te spreek.

Afrikaners - Bridge builders to the future –
- A reflection on a political realignment within which Afrikaners can also find a home
After a two-year hiatus, it is a special privilege to once again host a General National Assembly, (Bondsraad) on the 104th anniversary of our organisation. The Afrikanerbond was founded on 5 June 1918 in Johannesburg, with the aim of empowering Afrikaners on an educational, economic and, later, political level. Our proud organisation has played a role in many of the major developments in South Africa over the past 104 years.
Taking place on 15 and 16 September 2022 at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, the theme of the General National Assembly is Afrikaners – Bridge builders to the future. (Afrikaners – Brugbouers na die toekoms) Representatives from all of South Africa’s provinces as well as from abroad will attend in person and virtually.
Since the General Assembly of 2018 (the Afrikanerbond’s centenary year) in Paarl, at which President Ramaphosa delivered an address, there have been numerous developments on various fronts. The 2022 General National Assembly of the Afrikanerbond presents the ideal opportunity to reflect, collaborate, and plan for the future.
At present, we find ourselves in an unworkable and unsustainable political order. The current political dispensation does not work. Not only for Afrikaners, but for the millions of South Africans who in 1994 hoped for and dreamed of a new political order.
Our discussions during the General National Assembly will focus on the internal functioning of our organisation while also placing emphasis on our external interactions. We will reflect on the demography of the Afrikaans language community and the challenges we face in this regard, with a presentation by Connie Mulder from the Solidarity Research Institute.
We are particularly privileged to host two opposition leaders, who will share their perspectives on coalition politics with us. This is a topic that is currently in the spotlight within the South African political environment, and we look forward to hearing the expert opinions of:
- Mrs Helen Zille, Chair: Federal Council of the Democratic Alliance, and
- Dr Corne Muller, Freedom Front Plus Chief Whip
Our discussions will also focus on participation in civil coalitions, and the collaboration with political coalition partners that is required to make a political realignment possible.
The Afrikanerbond will also present a number of special awards and certificates of appreciation to the following people:
• Phillip Nel (Posthumous)
for his extraordinary contribution to the Afrikanerbond and the community that he served with distinction
• Pieter van der Westhuizen
for his selfless service in the promotion of Afrikaans choral music and culture, and the promotion of church music
• Prof. Christo Viljoen
for his significant contribution in the academic and cultural field in the promotion of Afrikaans education and training in engineering, and his particular contribution to broadcasting
• Sampie Pienaar
for his extraordinary contribution to the leadership of the strategic management of the Christiaan de Wet Fonds
• Willem Rossouw
for his extraordinary contribution to the financial management of the Afrikanerbond and the Christiaan de Wet Fonds
• The Solidarity Movement
for its extraordinary contribution to higher education, teaching and training in Afrikaans, with the establishment of Akademia and Sol-Tech

Within the theme of Afrikaners – Bridge builders to the future and our vision As Afrikaners we build the future of South Africa together, the Afrikanerbond works in our own, and national, interest. Our appeal is to the Afrikaners who live and work throughout our country and make a difference in their communities every day. This is our vision for Afrikaners who regard South Africa as their home and who understand that their destinies are intertwined with those of all South Africans. It is our vision for Afrikaners who cannot or do not want to isolate themselves from South Africa. And it is our vision for Afrikaners building bridges to other South Africans every day to address our common interests.
